Iraq Condemns Colombia’s Decision on Israeli Sovereignty over Syrian Golan

Baghdad: Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong condemnation of Colombia’s decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan, emphasizing that this decision holds no legal weight.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement expressing its denunciation of Colombia’s move. The statement highlighted that the Golan Heights remains Syrian territory under occupation, and no entity has the authority to alter its legal status or legitimize the occupation. The ministry insisted that the Colombian decision does not alter the fact that the Golan is an integral part of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The ministry further argued that acknowledging the sovereignty of an occupying power over occupied land sets a concerning precedent, potentially undermining international law and the United Nations Charter, particularly the respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity. Iraq reaffirmed its consistent position against the Israeli occupation of Arab territories and expressed full solidarity with Syria in maintaining its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
