New york: The Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly has emphasized the urgent need to immediately halt military escalation and hostilities in the Middle East. They have called for the resumption of negotiations between Iran and the United States under United Nations auspices, in line with international law and the principle of self-determination.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Council expressed concern over the military confrontations involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, highlighting that the use of force violates the UN Charter and threatens international peace and security.
The Council urged the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action to maintain international peace and security. They called for an emergency special session of the General Assembly and encouraged the United Nations Secretary-General to use his good offices to achieve a peaceful resolution. The Council affirmed their readiness to support all UN-led efforts towards resolving the crisis diplomatically.
