Washington: US President Donald Trump estimated on Thursday the chances of success of his meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska at about 75%.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in an interview with Fox News, the broadcaster asked Trump to assess the likelihood that he would conclude, after negotiating with Putin, that the meeting was not worth the effort. Trump indicated that the probability of this scenario was 25%.

The US President emphasized that he intends to leave room for Russia and Ukraine to discuss any possible agreement to resolve the conflict between them. In an interview with Fox News, he added, “I won’t negotiate the agreement. I’ll let them (Russia and Ukraine) make the deal. So we’ll call Zelensky if the summit goes well. If it doesn’t, I won’t call anyone and I’ll turn back.”

The Kremlin and the White House had previously announced that the summit between Putin and Trump would be held in Alaska on August 15. As Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov reported on Thursday, the summit will begin at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base at 10:30 PM Moscow time, where the two presidents will first hold a bilateral meeting and then an expanded meeting with the delegations.

Participating in the negotiations from the Russian side are Ushakov, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and Kirill Dmitriev, the president’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries. The two presidents will deliver two short speeches before the start of the talks, and will hold a joint press conference at the conclusion of the talks, where the Ukrainian settlement will be the main focus of discussion.
