Baghdad: US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he had signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, Texas, following the massive flooding that swept through the central part of the state, killing dozens of people, while search efforts continued for the missing.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump said via his Truth Social platform: “I have just signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, Texas, to ensure our brave first responders receive the necessary resources immediately. These families are suffering an unspeakable tragedy, as we have lost so many lives, and many more are still missing.”

He confirmed that his administration is closely coordinating with local officials, noting that Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem is on the ground, accompanied by Governor Greg Abbott. He added, “Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was on the ground yesterday with Governor Greg Abbott, who is working tirelessly to help the people of his great state.”

Trump praised the rescue efforts, saying, “The incredible U.S. Coast Guard, along with our first responders across the state, saved over 850 lives. God bless these families, and God bless Texas!”

Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha stated that 11 people remain missing, while the death toll has risen to nearly 70, including children who were camping along the banks of the Guadalupe River, one of the areas hardest hit by the flooding. Rescue teams continue to work under extremely difficult conditions, while authorities work to provide relief and support to residents amid what is being described as the worst natural disaster to hit Texas in years.
