Washington: US President Donald Trump dismissed Navy Vice Admiral Shoshanna Chatfield from her position as the US representative on the NATO Military Committee, without providing any official justification.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Chatfield is one of the most prominent female military leaders in the United States. She has extensive combat experience as a helicopter pilot and was the first woman to serve as president of the Naval War College before being appointed to her current position in Brussels in December 2023.

The dismissal decision sparked a wave of sharp criticism from Democratic lawmakers. Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Mark Warner expressed his deep concern about this move, considering that Trump’s policy of dismissing experienced military leaders weakens US national security and reduces US influence on the international stage.

Senator Jack Reed described the decision as “unjustified and disgraceful,” praising Chatfield’s distinguished 38-year career in the military.

This decision comes in the context of a series of dismissals carried out by Trump against senior military officials, totaling ten in the past three months alone, all without explanation.

Among those recently dismissed are Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General C.Q. Brown Jr. and Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti.
