Baghdad: Iraq’s National Security Adviser, Qasim al-Araji, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Baghdad, Anil Bora Inan, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on enhancing joint cooperation in a manner that serves mutual interests and reinforces constructive partnership between Iraq and Turkey. Al-Araji noted that the region is witnessing escalating tensions that negatively impact economic stability and sustainable development efforts. He stressed the need for coordinated action by the international community and regional states to de-escalate tensions and restore stability. He also praised the level of Iraqi-Turkish cooperation, underscoring the importance of maintaining balanced diplomatic relations with regional and international partners, as well as activating the memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries.
The National Security Adviser further emphasized the importance of unifying international efforts to confront terrorist threats, calling on countries to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities by repatriating their nationals among detainees recently handed over to Iraq. For his part, the Turkish ambassador reaffirmed the depth of relations between the two nations and Ankara’s commitment to expanding cooperation across various fields in a way that serves the interests of both friendly peoples. He expressed his government’s readiness to repatriate its nationals from prisons and commended Iraq’s diplomatic role in supporting security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
