Turkish Foreign Minister Calls for Adoption of Egypt’s Gaza Plan

Cairo: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called for the adoption of the Egyptian plan on Gaza, which has the support of all Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in his speech on Sunday at the meeting of the Gaza Contact Group of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League, held in Cairo, Fidan said: “The genocide in Gaza continues, and Israel continues its expansionist policies.”

He stressed the need to proceed on the basis of Egypt’s plan on Gaza, which has the support of OIC countries. Fidan noted that genocide, forced displacement, and apartheid policies are still ongoing in Gaza as this meeting is being held.

He added that the airstrikes launched by Israel on the 18th of this month demonstrated that it has a more comprehensive agenda. Fidan emphasized that preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid and targeting territories in Syria and Lebanon are indications of Israel’s persistence in this expansionist policy.

Fidan said, “Peace cannot be achieved in the region unless Israel is curbed, and our primary goal must be to stop the destruction in Gaza and achieve a permanent ceasefire. Pressure must be increased on Israel.” Fidan emphasized the need to utilize platforms such as the United Nations to achieve an urgent and permanent ceasefire.

He pointed out that Egypt’s plan on Gaza, which has the support of all OIC countries, offers a constructive framework, and that work must continue based on this plan.

The Egyptian capital, Cairo, hosted a meeting of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee on Gaza on Sunday, with the participation of a number of Arab and Muslim foreign ministers, and the attendance of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas.

The meeting, chaired by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty, discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip. Participants expressed their grave concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation resulting from the ongoing military operations, reaffirming their rejection of the resumption of hostilities and the targeting of civilians and infrastructure.

They also stressed the importance of an immediate return to the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement that entered into force on January 19, sponsored by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the ministers reiterated their support for holding a high-level international conference in New York next June, under the auspices of the United Nations and co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, with the aim of advancing peace and stability efforts in the region.
