Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has expressed Turkey’s willingness to support Syria if a military agreement between the two nations is concluded. During a televised statement, Fidan remarked, “Syria, as an independent country, if it enters into a military agreement with us, we are ready to provide it with whatever support we can.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan criticized Israel’s actions in Syria, noting that it is unacceptable for Israel to provoke tensions in the region due to its expansionist ambitions. He highlighted that instability in Syria could pose a threat to Turkish national security, emphasizing that Ankara cannot remain passive in the face of such instability. Fidan was clear that Turkey has no intention of entering into a conflict with any country, including Israel, and reiterated Syria’s status as an independent nation.

Fidan further elaborated on Syria’s capacity to overcome challenges with Turkish support, stating, “We have the intention, then the ability, and then the vision.” He noted that Turkey is naturally inclined to provide support to Syria in areas where it is needed.

He criticized Israel’s strategy in Syria, claiming that Tel Aviv has systematically dismantled elements essential to Syria’s regular army since the onset of the conflict. Fidan accused Israel of working steadily to undermine Syria’s new administration and armed forces.

In a broader regional context, Fidan commented on the Middle East, particularly concerning Gaza and Palestine. He urged the United States to “recalibrate” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach and establish a framework for him. He recalled that US President Donald Trump had promised to end conflicts in Palestine and Ukraine and avoid sparking new global wars.

Addressing rumors of talks with Israel, Fidan mentioned the necessity of a mechanism to prevent confrontations during operations in Syria, as is done with American and Russian forces. He revealed that technical contacts with Israel are ongoing to prevent misunderstandings and ensure coordination.

Fidan also highlighted the regional implications of the Gaza issue, condemning policies that result in civilian casualties and destruction. He asserted that Turkey’s stance against Israel aligns with the principles of human dignity and humanity.
