Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has pointed out that Israel's primary concern at present is the threat of international isolation.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan, in an interview with the Turkish Anadolu Agency, emphasized that as global awareness increases, so does the likelihood of Israel facing greater isolation. Fidan noted that Israel might resort to creating new narratives or provocations to counteract this trend. He also discussed the critical issue of Hamas relinquishing its weapons as part of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, a move Israel has been hesitant about.
Fidan detailed Israel's reluctance to engage diplomatically with Hamas and the Palestinians, often delaying resolutions. He cited a recent incident where Israel launched an attack hours after Hamas agreed to lay down its arms, resulting in 18 deaths. This pattern, Fidan argues, leaves even pro-Israel circles without justification for Israel's actions.
The minister expressed confidence in Hamas's approach, which he believes prioritizes Palestinian existence and warned that Israel's goal of depopulating Gaza must be countered with continuous political action.
Turning to the Strait of Hormuz crisis, Fidan discussed efforts to reach an understanding between the United States and Iran to reopen the strait, following an agreement mediated by Pakistan. He highlighted the involvement of regional countries, the U.S., and European and Asian nations in these negotiations, emphasizing Turkey's role in facilitating dialogue.
Fidan also commented on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, expressing concern over its potential escalation into a protracted war affecting civilian areas. He warned that the conflict could evolve into a matter of national survival, with significant consequences if not addressed diplomatically.
Addressing attacks on Turkish ships in the Black Sea, Fidan confirmed that Turkish vessels are being targeted, though to a lesser extent than others. He reassured that Turkey is taking measures to safeguard its interests and has called for a ceasefire mechanism between Ukraine and Russia.
Regarding Turkey's legislative efforts to combat terrorism, Fidan praised the passage of the "Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration" as a step towards a terrorism-free Turkey. He criticized the PKK for not embracing peace, asserting that their actions harm Kurdish interests and exacerbate instability.
The Turkish Parliament's Justice Committee recently approved the bill as part of the "Turkey Without Terrorism" initiative, marking a significant legislative milestone in Turkey's fight against terrorism.
