Turkish Foreign Minister to Participate in Critical Ukraine Meeting in London

London: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to participate in a pivotal meeting on Ukraine in London on Sunday. The meeting, hosted by the British capital, will bring together representatives from various nations to discuss the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Turkish diplomatic sources revealed that Minister Fidan will attend the meeting on behalf of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The agenda is expected to cover the Russian-Ukrainian war, with a focus on recent initiatives led by US President Donald Trump aimed at fostering negotiations.

Minister Fidan is anticipated to share insights on Turkey's potential contributions to resolving the conflict. He will emphasize Ankara's commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace, as well as its support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence. Furthermore, he is likely to highlight Turkey's willingness to facilitate direct negotiations, a role it previously played in March 2022.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer earlier announced the weekend summit, extending invitations to several nations and entities, including Ukraine, Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Romania, NATO, and the European Union.

The announcement of President Trump's agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to initiate negotiations on the Ukraine conflict has sparked concern in Brussels, particularly due to the exclusion of the European Union and Kiev from these talks. In response, French President Emmanuel Macron convened a mini-security summit in Paris, gathering leaders from Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Denmark, and the Netherlands along with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

The Paris summit concluded with a joint statement from the participants, voicing their readiness to provide security guarantees to Ukraine and reinforce European defense.
