Ankara: The Turkish Parliament has issued a stern warning to Israel regarding the treatment of Turkish citizens detained, including three Members of Parliament (MPs), urging their immediate release and safe return to Turkey. The demand follows an attack on the Freedom Fleet in international waters.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Parliament condemned the targeting of the Ship of Conscience, which was carrying 21 Turkish citizens, including the three MPs. The Parliament labeled the incident a ‘despicable attack on the Turkish Parliament’ and expressed unwavering support for the detainees and others involved in delivering aid to Gaza.

The statement highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, which has been under a blockade for an extended period, describing it as a genocide perpetrated by the government led by Benjamin Netanyahu. It emphasized that the Global Steadfastness Fleet, comprising over 50 ships and hundreds of activists from 44 countries, serves as a collective humanitarian effort aimed at breaking the blockade and providing aid.

The Turkish Parliament accused Israel of committing a ‘new crime’ by attacking the humanitarian fleet, asserting that this act violated international law. It urged global parliaments and international organizations to unite in holding Israel accountable for alleged war crimes and to pursue an end to the occupation.

The Parliament further stressed that the actions of the Israeli occupation forces, including the assault on activists and Turkish MPs, would face consequences and be brought before international courts.
