GENEVA: Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus has issued a strong plea to the international community to intervene and prevent Israel from escalating tensions in the Middle East into a regional war. Speaking at the 149th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Kurtulmus condemned what he described as “reckless Israeli aggression on Lebanon” and the use of advanced technology in military actions against Palestinian civilians.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Kurtulmus highlighted the severe impact of the conflict on Gaza, describing the area as a “ghost town” following the Israeli attacks. He reported the alarming levels of casualties and destruction, noting that tens of thousands of Palestinians have been martyred, with many more injured or trapped under rubble. Kurtulmus criticized the application of artificial intelligence by Israel in military assaults, which he claimed were random and targeted civilians.

The Turkish official called for the international community to not
only legally but also morally oppose the misuse of technology in warfare. He suggested the establishment of international monitoring systems for technology similar to those used for nuclear weapons. Kurtulmus emphasized the urgent need to halt what he termed a “war of genocide” by Israel against the Palestinian people, advocating for an end to the occupation and colonization of Palestinian lands.

Furthermore, Kurtulmus urged for the mutual release of all prisoners and detainees and stressed the importance of ensuring access to humanitarian aid. He reaffirmed his support for a two-state solution, asserting that it remains the only viable path to peace and security in the region. He called for international recognition of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state based on the 1967 borders with East Al-Quds as its capital.
