UN Secretary-General Considers Hamas’s Response to Gaza Peace Agreement Encouraging


New york: UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres expressed his satisfaction with the Hamas movement’s response to US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, describing it as “encouraging.” The Secretary-General’s Spokesman said in a statement on Saturday that Guterres “urges all concerned parties to seize this opportunity to end the war in Gaza and put an end to the humanitarian catastrophe suffered by civilians there.”



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Secretary-General affirms the United Nations’ readiness to support any international efforts aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire and creating the conditions for a lasting peace in the Middle East. On Friday evening, the Palestinian Hamas Movement announced its acceptance of US President Donald Trump’s proposal regarding the Gaza Strip, affirming the release of all detainees, both alive and dead, according to the exchange formula, and the transfer of administration of the Strip to an independent Palestinian body (technocrats) in accordance with national consensus and Arab and Islamic support.



US President Donald Trump, accompanied by his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, presented a new plan aimed at ending the war in the Gaza Strip and defining the contours of governance after the removal of Hamas. This plan was presented during a meeting with leaders of Arab and Islamic countries on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings.



From October 7, 2023, to September 26, 2025, the war on Gaza resulted in the deaths of more than 66,000 Palestinians and the injury of more than 168,000, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
