Baghdad: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has conducted a specialized training course for members of the Security Media Cell at the Joint Operations Command, focusing on Fact-Checking Techniques and Information Matching (FCT) and countering media and information disinformation. The course was part of the 'Community Communication for Peace' project, funded by the European Union.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the training included intensive practical sessions on the latest verification tools and methodologies, including ethical and reliable artificial intelligence applications used in digital fact-checking and content matching. It also emphasized source assessment, narrative analysis, and the establishment of clear institutional procedures for pre-publication verification, enhancing professionalism and transparency and curbing the spread of misinformation.
The course marks the conclusion of the first year of the project's implementation, which began cooperation with the Security Media Cell in early 2025, within an ongoing partnership that responds to fieldwork needs and supports responsible public discourse. In this context, UNESCO reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Iraq-its government and people-across its areas of mandate, particularly digital transformation and smart automation in the information and communications sector, and the development of a verification- and reliability-based information environment, contributing to greater trust in information and the promotion of community peace.
