Gaza: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) announced today that at least 322 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip in the past ten days since Israel resumed its aggression on Gaza on March 18, following a two-month hiatus.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, UNICEF stated that the collapse of the ceasefire and the resumption of heavy shelling and ground operations in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the death of at least 322 children and the injury of 609 others. This equates to an average of more than 100 children killed or maimed every day over the past ten days.
UNICEF explained that most of these children were displaced and had taken refuge in temporary tents or damaged homes. It noted that these numbers include children killed or injured in the airstrike on the emergency department at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Catherine Russell, Executive Director of UNICEF, emphasized that the ceasefire provided a safety net that Gaza's children needed. She added that the suffering of children in Gaza has begun again due to the ongoing Israeli bombing of the Strip.
