Baghdad: The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced today, Thursday, that it had detected Israeli airstrikes on the towns of Tyre, Taybeh, and Aita al-Jabal within its area of operations in southern Lebanon. In a statement, it affirmed that “these airstrikes constitute a clear violation of Security Council Resolution 1701, threaten the safety of civilians, and undermine the chances for a political solution.”
According to National Iraqi News Agency, UNIFIL explained that its forces are working on the ground with the Lebanese army to support the implementation of the resolution and restore stability. UNIFIL called on Israel to immediately cease its attacks and urged Lebanese parties to exercise restraint to avoid further escalation.
