Jerusalem: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced today, Sunday, that Israel has ordered the evacuation of all its headquarters in East Quds, demanding an end to its operations by January 30.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, UNRWA stated, “Our properties and assets, including those in East Quds, are immune from search, confiscation and any other form of interference.” This announcement follows the recent approval by the Israeli Knesset on October 28, which bans UNRWA’s activities in the occupied Palestinian territories. The law is set to become effective three months post-approval, specifically at the end of January 2025.
Israel’s envoy to the United Nations, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, communicated in a letter on Friday that UNRWA “must cease its operations in (occupied) Quds and evacuate all buildings in which it operates in the city” by the stipulated date of January 30.
