Baghdad: A delegation from the US Embassy visited the Directorate of Combating Human Trafficking, highlighting the significant strides Iraq has taken in tackling human trafficking. The delegation included Michelle Sider, Head of the Political Section, and Danette Sullivan, Head of the Human Rights and Human Trafficking File.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the delegation acknowledged the efforts of the Iraqi government in addressing human trafficking, commending the leadership of the Minister of Interior and the Directorate in dismantling criminal networks and enhancing victim protection systems. They congratulated the Directorate on receiving the World Championship Award, a testament to its effective role in combating human trafficking, which also facilitated Iraq’s removal from the special watch list.

The American officials emphasized that Iraq’s progress in combating human trafficking reflects a genuine commitment to human rights and international laws. They also conveyed the US Embassy’s willingness to collaborate with the Directorate, offering support to bolster its capabilities and sustain achievements in this sector.

The visit underscores the international partnership aimed at confronting human trafficking and reinforces Iraq’s status among leading countries in fighting this crime.
