Baghdad:The United States has affirmed that Iraq is now standing on its own and is self-reliant.
According to the Iraqi News Agency, US President’s envoy to Iraq, Tom Barrack, stated that 23 years after the arrival of the first US troops, President Trump has managed to bring American forces home. This was achieved not by withdrawing and abandoning the field but by aligning the interests of Baghdad, Erbil, regional friends, and US priorities into a cohesive strategic framework.
Barrack emphasized that the contributions and sacrifices of both Americans and Iraqis over the years have paved the way for Iraq to be self-sufficient. He noted that these efforts are honored by the current state of Iraq, which now stands independently.
He also mentioned that this strategic alignment has opened new opportunities for Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and the Iraqi people. It allows for the unification of all Iraqi armed forces under a single state authority and chain of command, with the US remaining a supportive ally rather than a stationed force.
