Athens:US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated today from Athens that the United States firmly opposes any attempt by a single nation to control critical maritime routes, confirming that the Strait of Hormuz remains open.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Rubio’s comments specifically addressed Iran’s efforts to influence navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that Iran will never be allowed to develop a nuclear program.
During a press conference held before a “strategic dialogue” with the Greek government, Rubio highlighted the importance of diversifying global energy supply routes to avoid coercion. He assured that there has been no disruption to navigation and claimed Iran has lost control over the strait.
Rubio cited energy flow data indicating that oil volumes passing through the strait are consistent with previous levels, echoing US President Donald Trump’s statement that the US Navy maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz. Rubio described Iran’s economy as deteriorating due to sanctions and accused the regime of misusing resources for “terrorism, weapons, and Hezbollah.”
He warned against any Iranian attempts to expel US forces from the region, asserting President Trump’s firm stance against such actions and reiterating the US’s rejection of Iran acquiring nuclear capabilities, despite its industrial and military strengths.
