Washington: The Special Presidential Envoy Tom Barrack conveyed President Trump looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister Al-Zaidi to the White House mid-July to discuss the future of this important relationship.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Media Office of the Prime Minister stated that Prime Minister Al-Zaidi and Special Presidential Envoy Barrack reiterated the shared commitment of the United States Government, under President Trump’s leadership, and the Government of Iraq, under Prime Minister Al-Zaidi, to a strong and mutually beneficial U.S.-Iraq partnership. This partnership aims to fulfill Iraqi aspirations for a sovereign, secure, and prosperous future and to deliver tangible benefits for Americans and Iraqis alike. Special Presidential Envoy Barrack conveyed President Trump’s anticipation of welcoming Prime Minister Al-Zaidi to the White House mid-July to discuss the future of this important relationship.
The statement added that the leaders discussed the shared aspirational vision for the Iraqi government to build a future free from terrorism. They plan to implement Iraqi strategies for ensuring the complete disarmament and disbandment of all armed groups operating outside the authority of the Iraqi state, to confine their weapons within the state’s authority, and to assert full sovereignty to keep Iraq away from conflict and ensure that its territory cannot be used to threaten regional peace. Prime Minister Al-Zaidi and Special Presidential Envoy Barrack underscored the urgency in completing these efforts.
The statement further elaborated that the Prime Minister reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to deepening trade and investment relations between the two countries, a move welcomed by Special Presidential Envoy Barrack. They commended the Iraqi decision to finalize the operating license for Starlink to offer internet services for Iraqi consumers; to launch negotiations with Chevron to develop the West Qurna-2 and Nasiriyah oil fields; to enable U.S. companies HKN, Western Zagros, and Hunt to resume operations with full security guarantees; and to advance a memorandum of understanding with TI Capital to rehabilitate the Kirkuk-Baniyas Pipeline as an oil export route.
The Prime Minister and Special Presidential Envoy also reaffirmed the commitment to increase U.S.-Iraq commercial cooperation to support Iraq’s electricity needs, including through Excelerate Energy’s project to develop an LNG import terminal at Khor Zubair.
Both sides emphasized the importance of supporting a strong, sovereign, and united federal democratic Iraq, grounded in robust constitutional institutions, and ensuring full equality for all citizens to strengthen Iraq’s unity, stability, and prosperity.
