Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani received on Tuesday the Charg© d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Iraq, Daniel Rubinstein, accompanied by a large economic delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce, including representatives of 57 American companies, headed by Lotus Steve, and a number of company presidents and investors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mashhadani welcomed the US delegation, stressing that Iraq is open to all initiatives aimed at developing its economy and strengthening international partnerships, particularly with the United States, which is considered a key strategic partner in various fields. He emphasized the importance of investment in Iraq, especially in vital sectors like oil and electricity that form the backbone of the Iraqi economy. Al-Mashhadani also highlighted the need to boost investment in agriculture, industry, and service sectors crucial to Iraqi citizens’ well-being, such as the environment, education, and health.

Al-Mashhadani further explained that the House of Representatives has enacted an investment law designed to provide a secure legal environment for investment, protect investor rights, and promote transparency and equal opportunities. He noted that Parliament supports the signing of bilateral agreements with friendly countries to stimulate economic activity, attract foreign investment, and create job opportunities, thereby reducing unemployment and enhancing economic stability.

Daniel Rubinstein expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, reaffirming the US commitment to supporting Iraq’s economic development and stability, and strengthening the partnership between American and Iraqi private sectors. Lotus Steve, leader of the US trade delegation, underscored that Iraq represents a promising investment market, with American firms eager to explore cooperation opportunities across various sectors, focusing on job creation for Iraqi youth and the development of infrastructure and essential services.
