Caracas: The death toll from the two devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month has increased to more than 5,300, as announced on Tuesday evening. The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, caused widespread destruction across the northern regions of the country, particularly impacting the coastal state of La Guaira near the capital, Caracas.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez reported on his Telegram channel that the number of victims from the disaster has reached 5,346. This is an increase from the death toll of 5,278 reported on Monday. The number of injured individuals remains at 16,740, based on the official count.

In La Guaira, approximately 20,000 people are still residing in temporary camps set up in locations such as stadiums, public squares, and sidewalks. Official estimates reveal that around 25,000 homes are needed to accommodate those who lost their residences due to the earthquakes.

Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodr­guez has pledged to complete 4,000 homes by December for those affected by recent floods. Official figures further indicate that the earthquakes damaged more than 850 buildings, with 190 being completely destroyed.
