Baku:Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior will be absent from the upcoming La Liga Clasico against Barcelona. This follows a four-match suspension issued on Wednesday after he received a red card for hair-pulling in a match against Villarreal last week.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Spanish football federation’s disciplinary committee confirmed that the Brazilian player has been banned for several matches, including the visit to league leaders Barcelona on October 25. The suspension comprises two games for “behaving violently… (while) not being in a position to challenge for the ball” and two additional matches for “protests” directed at the officials.
Vinicius will also miss La Liga matches against Sevilla on October 18, Racing Santander on November 1, and Valencia on November 7. Despite his red card against Villarreal, Real Madrid, currently in fourth place under the management of Jose Mourinho, secured a 1-0 victory, keeping them six points behind Barcelona. The 26-year-old winger reacted angrily to the decision, particularly after a VAR review annulled a goal he scored following the incident with Villarreal’s Nathan Saliba. Vinicius had to be restrained by his teammates during his confrontation with referee Isidro Diaz de Mera.
Mourinho, displeased with the officiating, chose not to attend the post-match press conference. Following the match, Vinicius apologized to his teammates and Real Madrid supporters, expressing his regret on social media by writing, “I am sorry to the team and the fans.”
