Barcelona:Virgil van Dijk has been linked with a potential move to Barcelona as his contract with Liverpool is set to expire on June 30, allowing him to leave on a free transfer.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Van Dijk is open to exploring new opportunities in Spain as Barcelona seeks to strengthen their defense with a new centre-back. Despite the opportunity to bring in Van Dijk at no cost, there is hesitation from within the club.

Hansi Flick, the German coach, reportedly has reservations about signing Van Dijk, who is now 36. Flick is concerned that the veteran defender would require a period of adaptation and might limit the playing time of younger squad members.

Flick is focused on developing emerging talents like Gerard Martin and other prospects from Barcelona’s La Masia academy. As such, he is considering younger defensive options, with players like Alessandro Bastoni, Rodrigo De Paul, and Nico Schlotterbeck being prioritized.
