Baghdad: A weather forecaster has issued a warning regarding an impending weather system that is predicted to bring heavy rain, downdrafts, and hail to some areas. The weather system is expected to start in the northern regions of the country and gradually move to other areas during the coming week.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, weather forecaster Sadiq Attiya shared on his personal social media page that the existing weather system is expected to conclude today, Friday. A new system is anticipated to commence tomorrow, Saturday, initially impacting the northern regions and reaching its peak on Sunday afternoon and night, continuing into Monday morning before gradually subsiding.
Attiya has advised residents to take necessary precautions and remain cautious of the anticipated heavy rain and downdrafts, which may be accompanied by lightning, thunder, and hail. He emphasized the importance of avoiding road travel where possible due to the forecasted weather changes. Additionally, Attiya highlighted the risk of flash floods in valleys and slopes in northern Iraq and the eastern border regions, as well as potential flooding in underserved inland areas.
