Yemeni Houthi Parliament Speaker Opposes Egyptian Military Support for Saudi Arabia

Accra:Yahya Ali al-Ra’i, the speaker of the Houthi-affiliated parliament in Yemen, has expressed concern over the possibility of Egypt becoming involved in military actions supporting Saudi Arabia against the Houthis.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Ra’i sent an urgent letter to Egyptian House of Representatives Speaker Hisham Badawi, voicing his opposition to any potential Egyptian military involvement. This follows President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s call for the Egyptian parliament to consider authorizing measures to defend Saudi Arabia.

In the letter, al-Ra’i stated, “We categorically reject dragging Egypt, with its Arab identity and historical legacy, into a conflict that does not reflect its values.” He expressed deep concern about potential developments that could lead to Egypt’s involvement in military operations aligned with Saudi policies in Yemen.

Al-Ra’i also claimed that Saudi Arabia has waged a military campaign and imposed a blockade on Yemen for over 12 years, accusing Riyadh of undermining efforts aimed at achieving peace.

Earlier, Egypt’s National Defense Council reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, expressing readiness to provide all necessary support to safeguard the Kingdom’s security and stability. This decision came during a meeting chaired by President al-Sisi, where regional developments and escalating tensions, particularly attacks on Saudi Arabia, were discussed. The Egyptian presidency’s spokesperson emphasized the historic ties between the two countries and the connection between Saudi and Egyptian national security.
