4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Recorded Off Latakia Coast

Latakia: The Jordanian Seismological Observatory recorded a 4.2 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Latakia, Syria, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the observatory's director, Engineer Ghassan Sweidan, reported that the earthquake occurred at 6:05 PM at a depth of 60 kilometers, 380 kilometers from Amman. Residents of Syrian cities near the epicenter may have felt the tremors, but its moderate intensity does not indicate any significant potential damage. Northwestern Syria lies on an active seismic fault line extending from the eastern Mediterranean, making such tremors relatively common.
