Israel Halts Beirut Air Raids Following Biden’s Request, Israeli Media Reports

TEL AVIV: Israeli military operations in Beirut have come to a halt following a directive from the political leadership after a discussion between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to reports from Israeli media.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation disclosed on Sunday that the cessation of air raids was a direct order to the Israeli army, stemming from the recent diplomatic engagement between the US and Israeli leaders. The halt in military activities aligns with Biden’s request to minimize operations in the region, particularly those affecting civilian areas in Beirut.

Further details from the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper revealed that there have been no attacks on Beirut for three days, following the conversation between Netanyahu and Biden last Wednesday. The newspaper stressed that the decision to stop the attacks was made at the political level, indicating a significant diplomatic influence on military decisions.

Addi
tionally, the White House confirmed that during the call, President Biden emphasized the need to reduce harm to civilians in Lebanon and reiterated the US’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself against threats from Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group. ABC News reported an extended discussion on the future of Israeli military operations in Lebanon, highlighting the strategic dialogues between Biden and Netanyahu regarding regional security and military engagement.
