Baghdad: Diyala Governorate: In a troubling incident in Diyala Governorate, ten individuals suffered suffocation due to a chlorine gas leak at the Bani Saad water complex. This marks the second such occurrence in the area within the last 24 hours, escalating concerns over safety and infrastructure management.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a medical source confirmed that Baqubah Teaching Hospital’s emergency wards attended to ten workers and employees afflicted by the gas leak. The source detailed that the leak originated from one of the cylinders stored at the water complex located southwest of Baqubah. In response to the emergency, civil defense teams were deployed promptly to evacuate the area and secure any old cylinders to prevent further incidents.
The seriousness of the situation is underscored by a recent similar event where twenty cases of poisoning were reported in Bani Saad district following a chlorine gas leak from the central water supply station of the district. These consecutive in
cidents highlight ongoing risks and the critical need for stringent safety measures in handling hazardous materials.
