BAGHDAD: The Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) has announced the arrest of 21 individuals involved in illegal gambling activities and the closure of several gambling halls across Baghdad. This operation is part of a broader effort to curb illegal activities and address societal issues related to gambling. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the INSS's recent actions were a result of ongoing security operations based on intelligence reports and public cooperation. The arrests targeted individuals accused of managing and participating in illegal gambling games conducted in private halls and residential apartments throughout the capital. The INSS emphasized that judicial approvals were secured for the arrests, highlighting the significant societal threats posed by such activities, including family disintegration, rising crime rates, and fraudulent practices. The INSS further stated that all equipment used in the gambling operations was confiscated. The detained individuals and the seized items have b een handed over to the relevant authorities to proceed with the necessary legal actions against them. This initiative reflects a stringent approach by the Iraqi authorities to dismantle networks involved in illicit gambling and mitigate their adverse effects on society.
