Baghdad: Heads of blocs and Members of Parliament (MPs) convened in a closed meeting at the office of Acting Speaker of Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandalawi on Thursday evening. The meeting was held in the presence of Mohammed Al-Halbousi, head of the Progress Party, ahead of the resumption of the Parliament session aimed at conducting the second round of elections for the Speaker of Parliament.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, MPs who were present at the meeting revealed that discussions were centered on reinforcing support for Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani’s candidacy for the presidency of Parliament. The meeting was a strategic session to align the various parliamentary factions in anticipation of the upcoming electoral procedures.
