BAGHDAD: Newspapers in Baghdad have reported on Iraq’s recent political and diplomatic actions concerning the situation in Syria, along with security preparations along its borders. These developments follow Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s visit to Jordan and discussions with a delegation from the US State Department.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zawraa newspaper highlighted Prime Minister al-Sudani’s visit to Jordan, where he met with King Abdullah II. Discussions centered around the Syrian situation and emphasized the importance of bilateral coordination to confront regional and international challenges. The Prime Minister also engaged with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman via phone to discuss the developments in Syria and expressed the importance of supporting the Syrian people.

Al-Zawraa further reported that the Prime Minister had a meeting with US State Department officials, where the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating efforts concer
ning Syria. Prime Minister al-Sudani underscored Iraq’s commitment to consulting with neighboring and international partners about Syria’s future, stressing the need for a transitional phase that respects the will of the Syrian people.

In a separate report, Al-Sabah newspaper covered Iraq’s security measures along its borders in response to the situation in Syria. The Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais Al-Muhammadawi, reassured the public that the Iraqi security forces are prepared to prevent terrorism from infiltrating the borders. He noted that Iraq respects Syria’s internal decisions while emphasizing the importance of border security.

Al-Muhammadawi highlighted Iraq’s improvements in border security and the ongoing efforts to enhance air defense systems. He mentioned that contracts and agreements with various countries aim to diversify armament sources, reflecting Iraq’s focus on building military capacity without political interference.

In another development, Al-Zaman newsp
aper reported on the commencement of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Health Ministers’ session in Baghdad. Egyptian Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar praised Iraq for hosting the event and emphasized the importance of solidarity among Arab nations to improve health systems. The Council addressed issues such as migrant medical competencies, the Arab Drug Agency, and strategies to enhance health services in the region.
