Baghdad: The Ministerial Council for National Security convened to deliberate on the finalization of transferring the security file from the Ministry of Defense to the Ministry of Interior. The session, led by Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, focused on reviewing the country’s overall security situation and making necessary decisions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting included discussions on measures to ensure safety during the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Al-Kadhim. The Council emphasized the importance of securing a safe atmosphere for visitors and providing optimal services. Another point of discussion was the readiness and fortification of security forces along the border strip with neighboring countries.

The Council agreed to exempt the Ministry of Interior from the standard controls for implementing arms contracts and equipping military devices. This decision aligns with the ongoing process of transferring the security responsibilities from the Ministry of Defense to the Ministry of Interior, while continuing to unify security and intelligence efforts to achieve strategic objectives.

Furthermore, the Council highlighted the necessity of adopting an electronic visa system, a practice common in many countries. Discussions also covered the Ministry of Migration and Displacement’s proposals for facilitating the return of displaced individuals and addressing issues related to Al-Hol camp.
