Madrid: The Iraqi Travel and Tourism Companies Association marked a significant milestone today by participating with an official pavilion at the Fitur Madrid International Tourism Exhibition. This initiative is part of Iraq’s broader effort to strengthen economic and tourism ties with Spain, following the recent visit of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and his government delegation to Madrid.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the participation of Iraq in the Fitur Madrid Exhibition is seen as a pivotal moment in the country’s tourism sector. The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Fakak al-Badrani, emphasized that this represents a turning point in the ministry’s objectives to open Iraq to the global tourism market. The focus is on showcasing Iraq’s historical, archaeological, and religious landmarks, supported by governmental efforts to boost inbound tourism.

Haider Amer Al-Dajili, head of the Iraqi Travel and Tourism Companies Association, highlighted the collaborative efforts of the association’s administrative body, the Iraqi Embassy in Madrid, the Ministry of Culture, and the Tourism Authority. Their aim is to enhance the private sector’s role in promoting Baghdad as the Capital of Arab Tourism and positioning Iraq as a global tourist destination. The association’s efforts have already resulted in memoranda of understanding and contracts being signed between foreign and Iraqi companies, aiming to market and promote Iraq’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
