Tehran: The Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee called on President Masoud Pezeshkian to dismiss his deputy for strategic affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif, on Monday, following his statements at the Davos Economic Forum last week.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the committee issued a statement urging President Pezeshkian to “abide by the law and cancel Zarif’s illegal appointment as strategic deputy to the president,” citing that “his statements contradict Iran’s security and interests.” The committee expressed that Zarif’s remarks at the forum were perceived as undermining national unity and conflicting with national interests.

The parliamentary committee emphasized that such statements should be condemned as they threaten national unity. They reiterated that international positions and foreign policy statements are the responsibility of designated diplomatic officials, notably the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Furthermore, the committee urged Iranian officials to “unite against the enemies’ ambitions,” highlighting the necessity for intellectual, expressive, and practical unity amid threats and escalating pressures against the Islamic regime. The call for unity aligns with the directives of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, Ali Khamenei, with a focus on national security interests.
