Cairo: The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has issued its first official response to US President Donald Trump’s recent statements concerning the potential displacement of Palestinians. The Ministry reaffirmed “Egypt’s adherence to the constants and determinants of the political settlement of the Palestinian issue,” emphasizing the importance of addressing the Palestinian issue as a central concern in the Middle East.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that the delay in resolving the Palestinian issue, ending the occupation, and restoring the rights of the Palestinian people is a fundamental cause of instability in the region. The Ministry reiterated Egypt’s ongoing support for the Palestinians’ resilience on their land and their legitimate rights, in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law.
The statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry highlighted its firm rejection of any infringement on the Palestinians’ inalienable rights. This includes actions such as settlement, annexation of land, or the displacement of Palestinians from their land. The Ministry stressed that any efforts to transfer or uproot Palestinians, whether temporary or long-term, could threaten regional stability and hinder the prospects for peace and coexistence.
Furthermore, the Ministry called on the international community to initiate the actual implementation of the two-state solution. This includes establishing a Palestinian state within its entire national territory, encompassing both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in line with international legitimacy resolutions and the borders established on June 4, 1967.
The response from Egypt comes after President Trump mentioned discussions with Jordan’s King Abdullah II about relocating people from the Gaza Strip to neighboring countries. Trump also indicated plans to discuss the matter with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, suggesting that Egypt and Jordan could take in displaced Palestinians.
