Mosul: Nineveh province is facing a stifling economic crisis due to the continued ban on dealing in US dollars by the Central Bank of Iraq, which has become a major obstacle to the growth of the local economy.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the expert and professor of economics at the University of Mosul, Mohammed Saeed, stated that the ban imposed on the province’s dealings in dollars has led to the exacerbation of the economic situation in the province.

He explained that the ban has caused significant financial losses and a decline in commercial activity, contributing to a significant increase in unemployment rates. Saeed added that the continued prevention of Nineveh offices from transferring dollars has hindered many investment projects and made the economic situation extremely difficult.

Saeed is calling on the Iraqi authorities to lift this ban urgently to enable the province to regain its economic health, noting that the ban has also led to difficulty in settling international financial transactions. This has weakened the ability of local companies to expand or attract foreign investments.
