Baghdad: The Charg© d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Libya, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, announced today the return of two Iraqis who had entered Libya with the intention of illegal immigration.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sahaf revealed that the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Libya has successfully facilitated the voluntary return of 39 Iraqi citizens over the past two years. This includes 25 individuals who returned in 2024 and 12 more who were repatriated last week in 2025. These individuals had entered Libya intending to use it as a transit point for illegal immigration to Europe.

Al-Sahaf further stated that the embassy, as of this morning, completed the deportation procedures for two additional citizens who were intercepted in their attempt to migrate illegally through Libya towards Europe. The embassy worked closely with Libyan security authorities to prevent these migrants from falling prey to the inherent dangers and threats posed by illegal immigration networks.

He emphasized that these efforts align with the principle of voluntary return, highlighting the significant coordination between the embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad, and the Foreign Relations Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives. This collaboration was crucial in securing travel tickets and facilitating the safe return of these citizens, ensuring their protection and provision of necessary amenities such as housing, food, and medical treatment.
