Baghdad: The Security Media Cell and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) are gearing up to launch the “Social Communication for Peace SM4P” project. This initiative, funded by the European Union, aims to create a social communication environment that fosters peace and counters hate speech in Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Major General Saad Maan, head of the Security Media Cell, and Diaa Al-Saray, head of the communications and information sector at UNESCO, discussed various UNESCO programs in Iraq. They explored ways to support the Security Media Cell’s efforts and enhance cooperation to organize activities that bolster freedom of expression.

The meeting highlighted the role of governmental and security institutions in ensuring a communication environment that supports peace and stability. By addressing hate speech and incitement on digital platforms, the project aligns with the Iraqi government’s policies on digital transformation and peaceful coexistence.

Both parties emphasized the project’s significance in supporting national efforts to foster dialogue and counter extremism. They underscored the impact of digital media and social communication in building a cohesive society grounded in peaceful coexistence values.
