Baghdad: Today’s newspapers focused on Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s assertion that Iraq has maintained a balanced path, preventing regional conflict and gearing up for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zawraa newspaper, published by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, reported on Al-Sudani’s remarks, emphasizing Iraq’s commitment to maintaining a balanced foreign policy. During the seventh edition of the Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, Al-Sudani highlighted the government’s dedication to dialogue in addressing local, regional, and international challenges. He reiterated Iraq’s stance on crucial issues such as the Palestinian cause and emphasized the importance of national dialogue in resolving various files and issues.
Al-Sudani also mentioned Iraq’s progress in development and reconstruction, notably through strategic projects like the development road, which aims to bolster economic stability and international partnerships. He praised Ir
aq’s role in fostering dialogues between regional powers, such as Saudi Arabia and Iran, and highlighted Iraq’s transition to bilateral relations and security coordination with international partners.
Meanwhile, the United Nations representative in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan, expressed support for Iraq’s efforts toward security and stability during the conference. Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, also spoke, supporting the development road project as a means to strengthen Iraq’s regional role and promote economic integration.
In other news, Al-Sabah newspaper reported on the upcoming parliamentary elections, noting discussions regarding a new election law based on the Sainte-Lague system. Political sources indicated a potential shift in the electoral process, focusing on maintaining existing constituency sizes and adopting a new seat allocation method.
Additionally, Al-Zaman newspaper highlighted the meeting between Al-Sudani and Nechirvan Barzani, where they discussed resuming oil produ
ction in the Kurdistan region and re-exporting through Turkey’s Ceyhan port. Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of implementing joint agreements to enhance the Iraqi economy. Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to cooperating with the federal government.
The Prime Minister’s Advisor for Foreign Affairs, Farhad Ala’aldin, refuted claims of potential US sanctions if oil exports from Kurdistan do not resume, dismissing reports of external pressure on Iraq. The Federal Oil Minister recently announced the resumption of exports from Kurdistan, signaling an end to a prolonged conflict over oil supplies.
