Geneva: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his deep concern on Monday about the escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank. The UN Secretary-General told the Human Rights Council in Geneva that he was “deeply concerned” about the “escalation of violence” in the occupied West Bank and “calls for annexation.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Guterres stated, “I am deeply concerned about the escalation of violence and other violations committed by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, and about calls for annexation,” during a period when Israel evacuated 3 Palestinian refugee camps in the occupied West Bank and prevented their return. Guterres further noted that the ceasefire in Gaza is “fragile” and emphasized the importance of avoiding renewed hostilities.

For his part, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights remarked that any proposal to force people to leave their lands in Gaza is “totally unacceptable.” He also highlighted that the global consensus on human rights is collapsing under the weight of tyranny.
