Prime Minister Al-Sudani Directs Electricity Ministry to Enhance Power Supply During Ramadan


Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has directed the Ministry of Electricity to implement technical measures to enhance the electrical power supply during the month of Ramadan and to increase the fuel supply for private generators.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s media office released a statement highlighting that Al-Sudani chaired a meeting with the electricity sector team. The meeting focused on the measures to implement the 2025 summer plan and the ongoing procedures for collection and electronic transformation across all branches of the sector.



The statement detailed that during the meeting, the emergency plan for the upcoming summer was reviewed, identifying the needs of the production and distribution sectors. Additionally, it discussed the expected completion of electrical projects, the collection process, and its evaluation from both field and technical perspectives.



The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of collection as a means to sustain energy production and stressed the need to address negative practices in meter installation. Al-Sudani also called for an investigation into corruption suspicions in this area and illegal exemptions granted to certain commercial and industrial centers from the meter installation process.



The meeting further covered the maintenance operations for power stations, generating units, and transmission lines throughout Iraq. Discussions included financial allocations for these operations and the necessity to complete them before peak demand season. The statement also mentioned discussions on the gas oil fuel supply for power stations, covering the required quantities, supply mechanisms, and transportation logistics to ensure stable electricity provision to citizens. Additionally, the implementation of floating platforms and their electricity generation capacities were examined.
