Baghdad: The National Security Chancellery held a meeting to discuss the impact of the amendment to US funding for United Nations programs in Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Chancellery stated in a statement: “Under the direction of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the National Security Chancellery held an emergency meeting today with the relevant ministries on the areas of work identified in the letter of the UN Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, regarding Al-Amal Center, Al-Hol Camp, and the file of Iraqi families returning from northeastern Syria. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, and was attended by National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji, the Ministers of Immigration, Youth and Sports, Labor and Social Affairs, and Education, a representative of the Ministry of Interior, the Head of the Intelligence Service, the Head of the National Security Service, the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, and the Prime Minister’s advisors for security affairs and human rights.

The meeting discussed the contents of the letter of the UN Secretary-General’s Representative in Iraq regarding identifying work gaps resulting from the amendment to US funding and its impact on United Nations programs in Iraq.

During the meeting, a series of important decisions were made to support the Ministry of Migration and Iraqi institutions working on this issue, ensuring the continuation of the transfer of Iraqi families and the completion of the integration process without being affected by the suspension decision.

The meeting emphasized the responsibility of the international community to provide full support to close the second chapter of the ISIS file through the rehabilitation process for the families involved, emphasizing that this is a shared responsibility, not Iraq’s alone. The meeting also called on the US side to reconsider the decision to suspend support for international organizations operating in Iraq.
