Death Toll Rises in Shahid Rajaee Port Explosion in Iran

Hormozgan: The death toll from the explosion at the port of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran has climbed to 40, according to Hormozgan Governor Mohammad Ashoori. The tragic event has also left 1,241 individuals injured, as the impact of the explosion continues to unfold.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Iranian Interior Minister highlighted the extensive mobilization of national and regional resources to manage the crisis. Specialized firefighting teams from various provinces, including Tehran, along with special firefighting and rescue aircraft, have been dispatched to the scene to aid in the transportation of the injured.

The minister further explained that the fire spread rapidly inside the containers, exacerbated by strong winds. To prevent further expansion of the fire, authorities constructed an earthen embankment and strategically placed empty containers around the incident site.

The explosion, which occurred on Saturday, caused significant damage, shattering windows several kilometers away. Footage shared online captured a cloud of smoke rising post-explosion. The blast was so powerful that it was reportedly heard on Qeshm Island, situated 26 kilometers south of Bandar Abbas.
