Washington: US President Donald Trump stated that US authorities have made greater progress in the Ukraine conflict settlement talks with one side, and less progress with the other.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump, in an interview with NBC News, commented on the progress made in the talks, stating, “I think we are closer to one side, and maybe less close to the other side.” Despite the differing levels of progress with both parties involved, Trump remains hopeful about reaching an agreement to settle the ongoing conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently announced his rejection of Russia’s ceasefire proposal during the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. Zelensky confirmed Kyiv’s readiness for a truce starting any day, but only for a 30-day period, rather than the proposed three days. He also stressed that Kyiv cannot ensure the safety of foreign guests attending the military parade in Moscow on May 9.

US Vice President J.D. Vance, in remarks last Thursday, acknowledged a gap between Russia and Ukraine regarding their positions on resolving the Ukrainian crisis. Current diplomatic efforts are focused on bringing Moscow and Kyiv closer to an agreement.

President Trump noted that Russia appears ready to strike a deal to resolve the conflict, highlighting Moscow’s significant concessions. However, he pointed out that an understanding with Zelensky has not yet been reached.
