Istanbul: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized during his meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez that the injustice faced by Palestinians will be addressed through joint efforts. Erdogan highlighted the importance of cooperation between Turkey and Spain, particularly in confronting the challenges in Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan praised Madrid for its principled stance against what he described as genocidal crimes committed by Israel in Gaza. He reiterated Turkey’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Spain in various sectors, including the defense industry and transportation, and expressed the desire to increase their bilateral trade volume.

The meeting, attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, also touched on Turkey’s aspirations to join the European Union. Erdogan stated that Turkey remains committed to its EU accession goal and called for constructive ste
ps from the EU to revive the process.

Furthermore, Erdogan reaffirmed Turkey’s efforts to mediate in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. He noted the significance of the recent Istanbul negotiations, which resulted in an agreement to exchange 2,000 prisoners equally between the two nations. Erdogan warned against missing the opportunity to end the conflict and emphasized the role Turkey played in facilitating the negotiations, which helped both sides make tangible progress.
