The President of the Republic Emphasizes Need for Understanding with Turkey on Iraq’s Water Share

Baghdad: President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, highlighted the significance of reaching an agreement with Turkey regarding Iraq's water share, amidst the challenges posed by climate change affecting many nations, including Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in his address at the Fifth Baghdad International Water Conference, delivered by an advisor, the President expressed concern over the substantial challenges Iraq faces concerning its water resources, primarily due to dependency on water sources originating beyond its borders. He emphasized the necessity of reaching an understanding with the Turkish side as part of Iraq's water policy, aiming to ensure the country receives its fair share to satisfy the population's needs.

The President also urged the Ministry of Water Resources to address and eliminate violations occurring on the rivers, which further complicate the water issue.
