Ministry of Migration Engages with British and Swedish Embassies on Key Migration Issues


Baghdad: The Ministry of Migration and Displacement discussed strengthening joint cooperation on migration, repatriation, and integration issues with the British and Swedish Embassies.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry’s Department of Migration Affairs organized a coordination meeting led by Director General, Dr. Safaa Hussein Ahmed, at the Ministry’s headquarters in central Baghdad. The meeting saw the participation of a representative from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the head of the Justice and Internal Affairs Department for Migration at the British Embassy, a project manager from the Swedish Migration Agency, and an international expert also from the Swedish Migration Agency.



The discussions covered several critical areas, including support for regular migration, reducing illegal migration, and enhancing voluntary repatriation and reintegration programs. The meeting also focused on mechanisms to secure basic needs for returnees, necessitating coordination and technical and logistical support from international partners.



Dr. Safaa Hussein highlighted the importance of developing cooperative mechanisms with embassies and international organizations. She emphasized expanding support areas to implement the Ministry’s sustainable programs and projects effectively, thereby enhancing its capacity to address the needs of the groups under its care amidst escalating migration challenges.
