Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani inaugurated the Martyr Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis Rehabilitation Complex in the capital, Baghdad, this evening, Thursday. The complex was implemented by the Popular Mobilization Authority and will provide addiction treatment, psychological rehabilitation, and social integration services to addicts from all segments of society and their families.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office stated that Al-Sudani toured the complex, which was built on an area of 12 dunams and includes seven specialized treatment and rehabilitation centers, and seven administrative and logistical departments. The center is managed by medical staff, therapists, and researchers in various specialties.

Al-Sudani congratulated the opening of this rehabilitation complex, whose name is associated with the martyred leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and the significance of sacrifice, giving, and service it conveys. He also praised the efforts of the Popular Mobilization Forces, which rehabilitated this facility and transformed it from a site of torture for citizens during the dictatorial rule into an important therapeutic facility. He emphasized that members of the Popular Mobilization Forces participate with their brothers at every service station, and were present during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister pointed to the psychological, social, and medical treatment services provided by the complex to combat the scourge of drugs, which requires the development of realistic and scientific solutions for addiction cases. He explained that the complex will be relied upon by our health institutions to address the phenomenon of addiction. This complex comes within the framework of the government’s commitment to the health sector, which has made progress in completing the infrastructure of hospitals and health centers, joint operation of hospitals, and localizing the pharmaceutical industry.
